International Abolitionists Network

The 852 Freedom Campaign is a justice movement founded by my husband Matthew Friedman, myself and a group of incredible professionals. The campaign continues to mobilise people to fight #slavery through new initiatives, film & media, art and music projects in Hong Kong & globally. It has also evolved to be an international abolitionist network.

Since March 2015 to December 2016, the 852 Freedom Campaign mobilised more than 25,000 people through more than 60 events in Hong Kong and region to play an active role in fighting human slavery by using their skills and abilities to raise awareness, funding (philanthropy), media projects and new initiatives. 852FC bilingual team members speak in companies, schools, and churches on modern slavery. This network has representatives from more than 120 NGOs, churches and businesses in HK and abroad.

In January 2017, we handed the campaign over to several leaders within the Chinese community along with a grant. We felt that to truly impact the 98% of the Chinese in Hong Kong, we had to pass on the baton to Chinese speakers who can reach them better than expats. To achieve lasting social change in a city like Hong Kong, you’ve got to reach the influential local Chinese.
